HARRISONBURG — James Madison is tapping into one of its favorite pipelines again.

University of Virginia defensive lineman Juwan Moye will transfer to JMU, a source said Tuesday.

Moye has two years of eligibility remaining and will join a roster that already features three former Cavaliers.

He will be immediately eligible, as players transferring from FBS down to FCS don’t have to sit out a year like FBS-to-FBS transfers.

Junior defensive end Darrious Carter departed Charlottesville for Harrisonburg before the 2016 season. Junior wide receiver David Eldridge and sophomore linebacker Landan Word left the Cavaliers for the Dukes before this season.

And during the early signing period last week, JMU inked Garden City Community College linebacker Matt Terrell, who spent his freshman year at Virginia.

When the 2018 season begins, JMU is slated to have five former Virginia players on its roster with Moye, Carter, Eldridge, Word and Terrell.

Moye, a Lilburn, Ga., native, started five games for Virginia this fall and recorded 18 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack.

Due to NCAA rules, JMU coaches can’t comment on unsigned transfers or prospects.

Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall announced last week that Moye and another player at the school had been stripped of their scholarships after they were suspended for a “violation of team rules” forcing them to miss the regular-season finale against Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Moye was a three-star prospect by Rivals.com coming out of Parkview High School.
