FRISCO, Texas – North Dakota State is the new champion of FCS.

The second-seeded Bison defeated top-seeded James Madison 17-13 in the title game on Saturday in front of 19,090 fans at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

This is the sixth title in the last seven seasons for NDSU (14-1).

Bison quarterback Easton Stick threw for 130 yards and a touchdown. His 50-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Darrius Shepherd helped NDSU build a double-digit lead in the first half. Stick was named the Most Outstanding Player of the game.

JMU (14-1), last year’s national champion, entered Saturday as winners of 26 straight games.

The Dukes rallied to pull within four points in the second half.

In the final four minutes, JMU defensive tackle Simeyon Robinson blocked a field goal and punter Harry O’Kelly successfully executed a fake punt to put the Dukes into Bison territory.

But with less than a minute left, JMU quarterback Bryan Schor’s desperation fourth-down toss toward the end zone fell to the ground giving NDSU the championship.
