HARRISONBURG – The FCS national championship game is staying put.

On Friday, the NCAA announced a new five-year extension to keep the game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas through the 2024 season and an option to keep the game there through the 2025 season.

The existing contract runs through next season, which will mark the 10th consecutive year the game will be played in Frisco. With the new extension, Frisco will become the longest-running host city of the FCS title game. Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., hosted for 13 straight years from 1997 through 2009 before the NCAA moved the game to Toyota Stadium.

James Madison appeared in the championship game in each of the last two years in Frisco, winning the second national title in school history in 2016 with a 28-14 victory over Youngstown State. The Dukes fell 17-13 to North Dakota State in last year’s bout.

On Saturday, North Dakota State will meet East Washington at Toyota Stadium to crown the 2018 national champion. Kickoff is at noon.

Cignetti Assigns Roles For Staff

Before Friday, new James Madison coach Curt Cignetti hadn’t officially assigned duties – outside coordinator roles – for his assistant coaches.

But on Friday, Cignetti announced positional assignments and other responsibilities for his staff members.

Offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery will coach quarterbacks, defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman will coach defensive ends and special teams coordinator Grant Cain will coach tight ends.

Offensive assistants are Damian Wroblewski (offensive line/assistant head coach), Mike Shanahan (wide receivers/recruiting coordinator) and Matt Merritt (running backs). Defensive assistants are Bryant Haines (linebackers/co-defensive coordinator), Ryan Smith (safeties/pro scout liaison), Matt Birkett (cornerbacks) and Andrew Jackson (defensive tackles).

Strength coach Brian Phillips and director of football operations James Ferguson highlight the support staff.
