Monday morning, the Colonial Athletic Association held its weekly coaches teleconference. James Madison coach Mike Houston took questions from reporters on his team’s win over Morehead State and this Saturday’s contest against Central Connecticut State.

*****

- Houston said going into the game against Morehead State with a new team and a new coaching staff, he really didn’t know what to expect. Houston said the players were “extremely focused” and what stood out the most was how hard his team played from start to finish.

- For the first game, Houston said the communication between the coaching staff on the field and in the press box “went really well.” JMU didn’t have any problems getting plays in, he said.

- Houston called the film “very clean for the first game” after he went back and watched Saturday night’s performance. He also added he found “plenty” that JMU could correct moving forward, but that the effort and energy his team had throughout the 80-7 win covered up some of those mistakes.

- Quarterback Bryan Schor accounted for three rushing touchdowns on Saturday. Houston said offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick had some minor “fundamental things” to clean up with Schor after watching the tape.

- On Central Connecticut State, Houston said that JMU would see a bigger and more athletic defense than what Morehead State had over the weekend.

- Central Connecticut State’s offense turned the ball over five times in its 24-10 loss to Lafayette on Friday. Houston said in spite of the five turnovers, the defense played really well and that JMU’s offense will be challenged this weekend.

- Lafayette totaled only 22 yards rushing against Central Connecticut State, holding Lafayette to less than 1 yard per carry. After week one, Central Connecticut State has the No. 4 ranked rushing defense in FCS and JMU has the top rushing offense in FCS.
