Monday morning the Colonial Athletic Association held its weekly coaches teleconference. James Madison coach Mike Houston and Elon coach Rich Skrosky took questions from reporters on this weekend’s contest between the Dukes and the Phoenix. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., on Saturday at Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg.

- Houston addressed the status of quarterback Bryan Schor. The junior signal-caller was hurt on the first play of the second quarter during JMU’s win at Villanova. He did not return to the game and was seen later in the contest on the sideline with his left arm in a sling. Houston said it’s too early in the week to tell if Schor would play this Saturday in the regular-season finale against Elon. Houston added, “he will be back, but we’ll see if it’s this week or not.”

- Schor has helped lead JMU to a CAA Title. When Houston was asked if JMU could win without its starting quarterback moving forward, he said, “we won Saturday.”

- The JMU coach has dealt with losing his quarterback before. He said when he was the coach at Lenoir-Rhyne in 2013, his team reached the national championship game despite losing the starting quarterback in Week 9 and backup quarterback in the second round of the playoffs. He said the third-team quarterback took L-R to the national championship game.

- Houston said as a coach he must be prepared for injuries to happen. He said JMU has “a very good football team,” beyond Schor. He also said South Carolina transfer Connor Mitch, “should be back very quickly,” from his non-football injury and that the program, “has a lot of confidence in Cole Johnson.”

- The win for JMU at Villanova gave the Dukes an outright CAA Championship. Houston said he saw the potential for a strong season early on, but was concerned with whether everything would come together. He pointed out JMU’s win over Delaware as the first time he thought JMU “had a shot” at winning the league and that the win at Richmond “confirmed” his thought.

- JMU got great production from its defensive line on Saturday at Villanova. Houston said defensive tackles Martez Stone and Cornell Urquhart disrupted Villanova’s passing game. The first-year Dukes coach said, “Martez may have had the best game in his career.”

- On Elon, Houston said the Phoenix have improved on defense throughout the season. Houston said Elon’s had good games by winning at William & Mary earlier this year and taking New Hampshire down to the wire.

- Elon coach Rich Skrosky said his staff learned of Schor’s injury and just “hates it” for Schor since Schor is having a great season. Skrosky said if Schor doesn’t play, he doesn’t think JMU’s offense changes all that much. He admitted the sample size is small, but he still believes JMU’s "bread and butter" is the run game led by senior running back Khalid Abdullah.

- Skrosky said while he was watching the tape of JMU-Villanova, he noticed that once Johnson got settled, he completed a few shallow cross patterns to help the offense move the ball.
