- Over the weekend, JMU beat Delaware, 43-20. Houston said the execution by JMU’s offense, “was really good” against the Blue Hens. The first-year Madison coach said he thought his team’s offensive line was strong after the coaching staff challenged the unit ahead of the CAA contest. Delaware has a stout front seven according to Houston and he said his offensive line matched the strength of Delaware.
- Houston said junior quarterback Bryan Schor, “played outstanding.” Schor threw for 209 yards, ran for 103 yards in addition to scoring four total touchdowns. Schor was named co-CAA offensive player of the week.
- After the first quarter against Delaware, JMU increased its offensive tempo. Houston said offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick wanted the offense to move quickly in order to force Delaware to keep the same personnel on the field. The decision to go up-tempo was one that paid off. Houston said Delaware’s defense began to fatigue as the game progressed.
- Against Delaware, starting linebacker Dimitri Holloway was injured in the first quarter. He limped off the field and didn’t return. Houston said he expects Holloway to play against William & Mary. JMU, “probably could’ve put him back in on Saturday,” Houston said, but since Brandon Hereford has proved to be a reliable backup, there was no need to rush Holloway back onto the field.
- Heferford started against Central Connecticut State and North Carolina when Gage Steele was sidelined with a leg injury. After filling in for Holloway on Saturday, Hereford leads JMU and is fourth in the CAA with 45 tackles. Houston said he told Hereford that the coaching staff views him, Holloway and Steele as three co-starters at the two linebacker spots.
- On William & Mary, Houston said Tribe running back Kendell Anderson is one of the “elite” players at the position in the CAA. Anderson ran for 168 yards and a touchdown during William & Mary’s loss at New Hampshire.
- Laycock calls JMU, “a very good team.” The veteran Tribe coach said JMU’s offense is difficult to stop because both running backs, Khalid Abdullah and Cardon Johnson are very talented and Schor is playing at a high level. He also said JMU’s offensive line is “really good.”
- Schor made his first career start against William & Mary last fall. Laycock said the difference between last year and this year is that Schor looks like he can do everything the JMU coaching staff is asking him to do now.
