Athletic Director Says It's Too Soon To Say
Matthew Stoss
DukesofJMU.com Mickey Matthews got a contract extension last year. Will the James Madison football coach get another one?
JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne said last week that it's too soon to say.
"We still have the extension that was signed last year," Bourne said. "... At this point, as I would with any coaches, I'm not going to really have any comments on it until I've had a chance to talk to the coaches and go through their year-end reviews with them. So I don't want comment on anymore personnel contracts."
Matthews' current contract runs through the 2014 season and expires on Jan. 31, 2015.
He received a one-year contract extension last March. The original contract was signed in February 2008 and ran through January 2013. Matthews then received a one-year extension in December 2009 to take it through 2014.
Bourne said JMU currently is doing its exit interviews with seniors. They began in December and should be finished soon, he said. Bourne indicated that they are part of a coach's end-of-the-year review.
